BMW X6: May the ‘Schwarz’ be With You
15th November 2008
Who would have imagined that the BMW X6 crossover-coupe-hatchback mismatch would look so good in a pure evil matte-black paint finish. Personally, we’d have maintained the silver color alloy wheels but other than that, this BMW X6 that looks like it was spotted in a parking lot somewhere in Austria -judging by the license plates that is- gets our full approval. Hit the jump for more pictures.

Sometimes we wonder what makes people like Ken Imhoff who built a Lamborghini Countach from scratch in his basement or in this case, Jeff Chabotte who restored the original BMW 633 CSI Cabriolet from the Back To The Future 2 film, do the things they do. Most wouldn’t even bother, but then again that is exactly what makes people like Ken and Jeff so special.
It’s never a pretty sight to see a spanking new car being smashed and even though the media would most likely have had a blast if a journalist was to blame for the mishap you see in the picture above, fortunately for Samantha Stevens of Australia’s Wheels magazine, she had no way of avoiding this accident that led to the complete destruction of her BMW 135i Coupe press car.
Now that we’ve probably offended more or less 0.2% of our readers that found the BMW X6 Falcon extremely sensual, let’s see AC Schnitzer’s proposal in detail. Aside from the two-tone paint job, the Falcon features a wide bodykit and 22-inch alloys available in black or silver finish.
The car that was supposed to offer BMW a worthy rival to the Mercedes-Benz CLS, Porsche Panamera and Maserati Quattroporte sports sedans, the production version of last year’s CS Concept has fallen victim to the economic downturn and will not be produced after all. The announcement was made during a conference call on the Bavarian automaker’s third quarter report.
Reflecting the global economic turmoil, the BMW Group that includes the BMW, MINI and Rolls Royce brands posted a 63 percent drop in third quarter profits. The Munich-based company said that pre-tax profits for the July-September period fell 63.5% to €279 million from €765 million a year ago.
Legendary racing car manufacturer and Formula One team Brabham has been brought back from the dead after being inactive for nearly sixteen years when the company that was founded in 1960 by two Australians, F1 driver Jack Brabham and designer Ron Tauranac, collapsed financially in 1992. For its relaunch, Brabham Racing will lift the covers off three new tricked-out BMWs at the forthcoming Essen Motor Show in Germany that runs 29 November to 7 December.
When it comes to styling packages, one is never enough – even from the same manufacturer. BMW tuning specialist Hartge is enhancing its line-up of products for the M3 Coupe and Cabriolet models with the introduction of a new four-piece set that consists of a front-end lip spoiler, a rear diffuser covering, a boot-lid spoiler and optionally, carbon-fiber mirror caps. It goes without saying that the folks over at Hartge will be more than happy to complement the E92 (Coupe) and E93 (Convertible) M3 styling kit with a set of alloy wheels as well as with an array of performance-orientated upgrades.
Efficiency combined with performance is what BMW promises to offer U.S. consumers with the new 335d and the awkwardly named X5 xDrive35d. Both vehicles are fitted with a twin-turbo 3.0-liter inline-6 diesel engine that generates a healthy 265HP and an even more impressive 425 pound-feet of torque at just 1,750 rpm – for comparison, the Corvette Z06′s LS3 V8 makes 423 lb-ft. BMW claims that the 335d goes from naught to 60mph in 6.0 seconds while delivering 36mpg on the highway. The heavier X5 diesel hits the 60mph mark in 6.8 seconds and offers an average fuel economy on the highway of 26mpg.
